Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old farmer living with his parents, 6 siblings, and 15 slaves on their plantation at Athens in Clarke County, GA. He enlisted there on 5 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Everett filed a claim for his final pay in April 1863.
