He enlisted in Washington County, GA on 25 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 28th Georgia Infantry. He was appointed Color Corporal on 20 July 1862.

On the Campaign

Brigadier General Colquitt recognized him for gallantry in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Color Sergeant about May 1863, but was reduced again to Private in August. He was absent, ill in October and reported to have died on 5 November 1863, place and cause not found.
