Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted on 15 April 1861 and mustered at New Orleans on 28 April 1861 as a Private in Company A, First Louisiana Volunteers.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in Maryland but was left behind sick in Frederick, MD, and captured there on 13 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was sent to Fort McHenry in Baltimore about 6 October and sent to Aikens' Landing, VA on 14 October for exchange. He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond, VA on 20 October and furloughed home for 35 days on 7 (or 17) November 1862.
He was back with his unit in time to fight at Chancellorsville, VA in May 1863 and with them until he was wounded by a gunshot to his left side and captured at Monocacy, MD on 10 July 1864. He was in a hospital in Frederick, then in the West Buildings Hospital in Baltimore, then returned as a prisoner to Fort McHenry on 30 August. He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 25 October, admitted to the smallpox hospital there on 9 November and died on 15 March 1865.
