Confederate (CSV)

Private

Stephen Bivens

(c. 1842 - ?)

Home State: North Carolina

Branch of Service: Infantry

Unit: 1st North Carolina Infantry

Before Sharpsburg

Age 19, from Alamance County, he was conscripted there as Private in Company B, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured, probably at Frederick, MD in September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #1 and may have transferred out to Fort McHenry in Baltimore in October. There is no record in his file of his reaching Fort McHenry or being returned for exchange. He is listed in the February 1863 muster roll as having deserted in Maryland with no later military record. It seems likely that he died in Maryland in 1862.
