Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 34 year old farm worker at Lancaster Court House, SC. He enlisted there on 28 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in what became Company D, First South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was captured in Frederick, MD on 12 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 10 October, formally exchanged on 10 November, and was home on furlough from 19 October to 8 February 1863.

He was wounded on 6 May 1864, place not given, and with his company to at least February 1865, the last record in his military file.
