James L. Robinson

Raised in Chester County, SC, in 1860 he was a 23 year old planter living with sister Mary next door to (or on the plantation of) his parents Moses & Margaret Robinson (16 slaves) at Red Land in Chickasaw County, MS. He enlisted in Houston, MS on 25 April 1861 and mustered in Lynchburg, VA on 13 May as a Private in Company H, 11th Mississippi Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.

He was 3rd Sergeant by May 1864 and with his company until he was captured at Petersburg, VA on 2 April l1865. He was again a prisoner at Fort Delaware until he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released on 11 June 1865.

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he a farmer was back in Chickasaw County, MS, but by 1900 was farming in Cross County, AR. He had retired there by 1910.

He married Elizabeth Caroline Lyon (1842-1926) in September 1866 and they had as many as 6 children.
