Age 21, from Yazoo County, MS, he enlisted in Satartia, MS on 24 April 1861 and mustered in Corinth, MS on 12 May as a Private in Company I (later B), 12th Mississippi Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 10 October and listed as a deserter there on 26 October. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.

He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #5 in Richmond with typhoid fever on 14 April 1863, sent to nearby Camp Winder hospital on 24 April, and died there on 28 April 1863.
