Before Sharpsburg
Going by Henry, by 1850 he was living with his family in Holmes County, MS. At age 24 he enlisted in Durant, MS on 30 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F (later I), 12th Mississippi Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.
From about March 1863 to January 1864 he was detailed as a nurse to the CS hospital in Staunton, VA. He was captured at Petersburg, VA on 9 September 1864 and was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD from 23 September to 4 June 1865, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
