Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 28 year old farmer in Copiah County, MS. He enlisted in Port Gibson, MS on 27 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company H (soon after, K), 12th Mississippi Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.
He was ill in Richmond, VA in January and February 1863, slightly wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May, and back in a Richmond hospital from June into August 1863 with a mild case of smallpox. He was afterward with his company to their surrender and parole at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer near Linden in Copiah County, MS, and he'd retired there by 1900.
