Before Sharpsburg

Age 30, he was conscripted in Raleigh, NC on 16 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E of the 14th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD about 8 September, was left behind, and was captured there on the 12th.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September, sent to Fort Delaware, then, on 2 October, on to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November. He was in various hospitals in Richmond, VA after 11 October 1862 and died of chronic diarrhea in CS General Hospital #24 on 1 May 1863.
