Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 21 year old living with his parents and 6 siblings on their small farm at Jackson Hill in Davidson County, NC. He was conscripted in Raleigh, NC on 16 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company B of the 14th North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 25 September and furloughed home on 21 October 1862. He returned to his company about June 1863 and was with them to at least August 1864, the latest record in his service file.
After the War
In 1870 and to at least 1880 he was again farming with his parents and siblings in Davidson County, NC. He was still there, farming, with his brother Daniel in 1900.
