Before Sharpsburg
Age 25, from Hertford County, NC, he was conscripted at Raleigh, NC on 16 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 14th North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September, transferred to the US hospital in Chester, PA, then sent to Fort Delaware in November. He was paroled for exchange on 15 December, but was "too sick to move" and died in the post hospital there the same day.
His widow Mary Ann filed for his final pay in January 1864.
