Allen Noland

In 1860 he was a 28 year old farmer with a small place at Crab Tree in Haywood County, NC. He enlisted in Waynesville, NC on 15 March 1862 and mustered the same day as a Private in Company L of the 16th North Carolina Infantry. He was sick in a hospital in Richmond, VA in August 1862.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, was left behind, and was captured there on the 12th.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September then transferred for exchange, place not given. He was admitted to a Richmond, VA hospital on 17 October and transferred to Company E of Thomas' Legion (also known as the 69th North Carolina Infantry), to date from 5 October 1862.

He was home on furlough to the end of 1862, then joined his new company. He was with them to at least February 1864, the last record in his military file.

By 1870 and to at least 1900 he was again farming back at Crab Tree (later Crabtree), NC.

He married Caroline Elizabeth Rhea (1833-1938) in August 1852 and they had 8 children. She applied for a Confederate widow's pension in July 1914, still living at Crabtree, NC.
