Before Sharpsburg

A 22 year old laborer, he enlisted at Petersburg, VA on 15 May 1861 and mustered in Norfolk, VA on 18 May as a Private in Company F of the 16th Virginia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862 to return to duty.

He was killed in action near Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1864.
