He enlisted at Camp McDonald at Big Shanty, GA on 11 June 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 18th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 31 October, released on 3 November, and was formally exchanged to return to duty on 10 November 1862.

He was captured again, near Knoxville, TN on 3 December 1863, and died of "malignant" smallpox at US General Hospital #3 at Louisville, KY on 14 January 1864.
