He was conscripted in Statesville, NC on 20 August 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F, 18th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to the Camp Winder hospital in Richmond, VA on 20 October and died there of typhoid fever on 23 (or 24) October 1862.
