Before Sharpsburg

Age 34, from Cedar Bluff in the Union District, SC, he enlisted there on 13 December 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 18th South Carolina Infantry. He re-enlisted at Charleston, SC on 5 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured at Boonsboro, MD on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to the hospital at Camp Winder in Richmond, VA on 14 October and died there of chronic dysentery on 17 October 1862.

His widow Jane filed a claim for his final pay of $64.23 (or $55.89) in November 1863, which was probably paid in September 1864.
