Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 25 year old farmer at Flint Hill in Carroll County, GA. He enlisted at Villa Rica, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 19th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 11 October, formally exchanged on 10 November, and returned to duty on 21 November 1862.

He was killed in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862. His widow Sarah filed a claim for his final pay of $32.97 in April 1863.
