Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old farm worker living with his (widowed?) mother Charlotte and younger sister Mariah on their farm near Weldon in Halifax County, NC. He enlisted at Camp Advance near Garysburg, NC on 5 (or 15) July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company I of the 2nd North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD sick by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to CS General Hospital #19 in Richmond, VA hospital on 13 October and died there on 27 October 1862.
