Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 32 year old contractor in Detroit, MI. He enlisted on 18 April 1861 as a Sergeant in Company A, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 11 November. He was promoted to First Lieutenant of Company D on 4 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in Maryland but was sent to command Company B after their Captain was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission on 28 January 1863.
