Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Brunswick, GA on 23 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C of the 13th Georgia Infantry. They were later Company F and finally, on about 10 May 1862, re-designated Company D of the 26th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, sick, by 12 September 1862, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November. He was sick in a hospital in Richmond in April 1863 and again absent, ill, in November 1864, the latest record in his military file.
