Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farm worker living with Wiley Bennett and family on their farm at Magnolia in Clinch County, GA. He enlisted in Satilla, GA on 29 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C of the 13th Georgia Infantry. They were later Company F and finally, on about 10 May 1862, re-designated Company D of the 26th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, sick, by 12 September 1862, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 10 October, furloughed for 20 days on 28 October and formally exchanged on 10 November. He was wounded by a gunshot to his left foot, date and place not given, admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #3 in Richmond, VA on 4 June 1864, and furloughed for 40 days on 17 June. There is no later military record.
