Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at Camp Stephens in Griffin, GA on 9 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company F of the 27th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, sick, by 12 September 1862, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged to return to duty on 10 November 1862. He was listed as a deserter from camp at Milton, FL on 24 March 1864 with no later record with the 27th Georgia.
After the War
A firewood cutter by trade, he was previously a resident of Houston County, and was living in Taylor County, GA in 1906.

He married Nancy Jane Womack (1848-1918) and they had at least 5 children between 1878 and 1883.
