Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in New Bern, NC on 15 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H of the 27th North Carolina Infantry. He was the subject of a court martial on 18 May 1862, charges and outcome not found.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, sick, on 11 September 1862, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September, admitted to the US General Hospital in Chester, PA with typhoid fever on 2 October, and sent to Fort Delaware on 6 January 1863. He was paroled there and sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange on 28 March 1863.

He was killed in action on 1 October 1864, probably near Petersburg, VA.
