Adam Philip Feather

In 1860 he was a 28 year old blacksmith with 4 children, ages 1 to 6, near Davis Mills in Bedford County, VA. He enlisted at Bedford, VA on 17 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 28th Virginia Infantry. He was sick in a hospital in Richmond, VA in May and June 1862.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September then transferred to the US Army's Camden Street Hospital in Baltimore. On 12 October he sent to Fort McHenry for transportation to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange.

He was in hospitals in Richmond and Hugenot Springs, VA from 21 October 1862 to 18 September 1863, then detailed as a brigade blacksmith from 4 October to 25 January 1864, when he was again sick, and furloughed. He was back with his company by April 1864 and with them until again detailed, to the division hospital, on 11 August 1864. He was on that duty to at least the end of the year. He was again a patient in a hospital, admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #5 in Richmond on 17 March 1865, with no later military record.

In 1870 he was a farmer at Rocky Mount in Franklin County, VA but by 1880 was again a blacksmith at Chamblissburg in Bedford County.
