Confederate (CSV)

Private

George Henry Blair

(1833 - ?)

Home State: Georgia

Branch of Service: Infantry

Unit: 3rd Georgia Infantry

Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 26 year old school teacher at Cut Off in Walton County, GA. He enlisted in Watkinsville, GA on 20 August 1861 and mustered in Portsmouth, VA on 30 September as a Private in Company L, 3rd Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 7 October and was formally exchanged to return to duty on 10 November 1862.

He was listed as captured at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, but there are no Federal records of that, and no later military record with the 3rd Georgia; it is likely he was killed at Gettysburg.
