Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his father and 2 siblings on their small farm in the Red Bone District of Marion County, GA. He enlisted in Muscogee, GA on 5 October 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 27th Georgia Infantry. The regiment was re-designated the 31st Georgia Infantry about April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to Winder Hospital, Division 2 in Richmond, VA on 14 October and died there of phithisis pulmonalis (pulmonary tuberculosis) on 21 October 1862.
His father Isaac filed a claim for his final pay in May 1863. It may have been paid in January 1864.
