Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Bainbridge, GA on 17 December 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 27th Georgia Infantry. The regiment was re-designated the 31st Georgia Infantry about April 1862. He was wounded by a gunshot to his arm, place not given, and in a Richmond, VA hospital in July. He was in a hospital in Winchester, VA from 14-19 August.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862 but was still absent, by then without leave, to at least August 1863, with no later record with his company. He was formally surrendered and paroled at Augusta, GA on 19 May 1865.
