Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 25 year old living on the Benjamin F Bruton plantation (6 slaves) at Bainbridge in Decatur County, GA. He enlisted there on 11 November 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 27th Georgia Infantry. The regiment was re-designated the 31st Georgia Infantry about April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 5 October then transferred for exchange. He was admitted to the Camp Winder hospital in Richmond, VA on 11 October, then sent to the Globe Hospital (General Hospital #11) there where he died of chronic diarrhea on 9 November 1862.
