Before Sharpsburg
Son of a blacksmith, in 1860 he was an 18 year old farmer living with his father and younger sister at Argo in Hall County, GA and he worked on his relative (uncle?) William Truelove's small farm there. He enlisted in Hall County, GA on 24 January 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 24th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September then transferred for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 14 October, sent to Scottsville, VA on the 20th, and was in the General Hospital there to at least 5 February 1863. He was wounded by a gunshot to his right forearm and by a piece of shell to his right knee and captured at Strasburg (or Cedar Creek), VA on 19 October 1864 and sent on 24 October to the West's Buildings Hospital in Baltimore, where he "sank from weakness and debility" and died of his wounds on 4 November 1864.
