Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 32 year old farmer at Louisville in Jefferson County, GA. He enlisted at Augusta, GA on 1 October 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, the Wright Legion. They became Company G, 38th Georgia Infantry in April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA on 11 October, formally exchanged to return to duty on 10 November, furloughed home on 12 November, and back with his company about 17 January 1863.

He was mortally wounded in action at Winchester, VA on 19 September 1864 and died in a hospital in Woodstock, VA on 23 September.

His gravesite is on Findagrave, as C.S. Farrer.

He married Sarah Jane Johnson (1827-1880) in June 1849 and they had 4 children.

His brother Aquilla was also in Company G and with him in Maryland, and was wounded at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
