Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at Petersburg, VA on 20 June 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 41st Virginia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital with typhoid fever by 6 October, furloughed for 10 days on 22 (or 24) October, and was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862.

He rejoined his company about March 1863 and was with them to 7 May 1864, afterwards in Virginia hospitals and on furlough, ill. He was retired and assigned to the Invalid Corps at Mobile, AL on 23 December, due to paralysis, but was back in a Richmond hospital on 10 January and to at least 8 February 1865. There is no later record in his military file.
