Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Fayetteville, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 44th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 5 October, formally exchanged on 10 November 1862, and returned to duty in January 1863. He was seriously wounded in action on 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville, VA and his left leg was amputated above the knee. He was afterward absent, deemed disabled, and last received pay in Atlanta, GA in April 1864.

After the War

He was living in Fayette County, GA in October 1879, (and again each year 1889-1896) when he applied for an annual allowance to maimed soldiers.
