Samuel Newton Carson

Going by Newton, in 1860 he was a 26 year old overseer living with his parents, 3 younger siblings, and 30 slaves on their plantation at Indian Spring in Butts County, GA. He enlisted in Jackson, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 45th Georgia Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September, held at the Provost Barracks in Philadelphia and in the US Army General Hospital at Chester, PA, then sent to Fort Delaware on 15 (or 17) October. He was transferred to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange on 15 December, and was at City Point, VA on the 18th. He was afterward with his company and was wounded by a gunshot to his finger in June 1864, place not given. He returned to duty soon after and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

By 1870 he was back farming with his parents at Indian Springs, GA.
