Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 26 year old farmer living next door to his mother's farm at Laurinburg(h) in Richmond County, NC. He enlisted at McQueen's Mills, NC on 6 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 46th North Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to CS General Hospital #23 (Ligon’s Factory Hospital) in Richmond, VA on 5 October but died there on 22 October 1862.
His widow Mary Sophronia filed a claim for his final pay in July 1863.
