Henry T. Thomasson

In 1860 he was a 15 year old farmer living with his parents, paternal grandmother, and 5 siblings on their small place near Wallers in Granville County, NC. Giving his age as 18, he enlisted at Camp Mangum near Raleigh on 28 March 1862 and mustered there on 16 April as a Private in Company E, 46th North Carolina Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange, arriving on 6 October. He was in a Richmond, VA by 15 October, but did not return to his company, and was discharged on 3 November 1862 for being under-age and having enlisted without his father's consent. No later military service found.

In 1870 he was a tobacco trader living with his grandmother Thomasson near his parents' farm at Henderson, NC, but was a grocer and dry goods merchant in Henderson by 1880 and to at least 1910. Henderson, formerly in Granville County, became part of Vance County when Vance was formed in 1881.

He married Mary Eliza Ellington (1854-1920) in December 1876.

His brothers Samuel (b. 1832) and William (b. 1835) were also in Company E of the 46th NC.
