Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old laborer living with his widowed mother and 7 siblings at Stafford Court House, VA. He enlisted at Aquia Creek in Stafford County, VA on 15 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Captain Bruce's Company, later Company I, 47th Virginia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was received there on 6 October, in a Richmond, VA hospital by 9 October, and furloughed for 20 days on 5 November. There is no later military record.
