Elijah Fletcher Starr

He practiced medicine in Rome, GA from about 1847 to 1856, then established his practice in Nacoochie, GA. By 1860 was a prosperous doctor there and owned 6 slaves. He enrolled for war service on 29 August 1861 and was elected First Lieutenant of Company C, 24th Georgia Infantry, mustering at that rank on 7 September (to date from 20 July). He was appointed Surgeon of the regiment on 1 November 1861 (to date from 24 August).

He was with his regiment in Maryland.

He was detailed for duty on an examining board in Richmond, VA from February 1863, and afterward served with the regiment to 27 October 1864, when he resigned due to poor health and returned home. He had tendered his resignation initially in September 1863, but withdrew it soon after.

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was again a practicing physician at Nacoochie near Cleveland in White County, GA.

He married Hannah Minerva Williams (1823-1902) in May 1846 and they had 7 children; 4 of them died of typhoid fever in 1893.
