Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old farmer at Monroe in Union County, NC with wife Mary (1839-) and infant daughter Alice. He was conscripted at Statesville, NC on 1 August 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F, 48th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort McHenry in Baltimore to 25 October, when he was paroled and sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was listed as a deserter in December but was back with his company by February 1863. He "deserted to the enemy" on 19 August 1863 with no later military record.
