Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 25 year old well digger at Sandersville in Washington County, GA. He enlisted there on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 49th Georgia Infantry. He was wounded in action near Fairfax Court House, VA on 1 September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was probably sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD and died there of wounds on 12 (or 13) October 1862.
His widow Priscilla filed a claim for his final pay in February 1864.

His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3, indexed under Lemiel Jackson. He's also on the Confederates In Frederick 2 and Frederick Patient 3 lists. Personal details from the US Census of 1860. His gravesite is on Findagrave; his original stone there had him as Samuel Jackson, which is how he's found in the Bowie List.
He married Priscilla Lord (1842-) in November 1858 and they had a daughter Ellapha (b. 1861).
