David Calvin Condrey

He enlisted in McDowell County, NC on 6 March 1862 and mustered at Camp Mangum near Raleigh on 15 April as a Private in Company A, 49th North Carolina Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November and back with his company by the end of the year.

He was again in a hospital, in Wilmington, NC, with dyspepsia from 15 April 14 October 1863, then back on duty. He was captured in action near Bermuda Hundred, VA on 21 May 1864 and was a prisoner there until 3 June, then in the military prison at Fortress Monroe, VA. He was sent on to Point Lookout, MD on 10 June and transferred to Elmira, NY on 8 July. He took an oath of allegiance there to the United States and was released on 3 July 1865.

He was probably living in Greenville County, SC by 1871 and in 1900 was a farmer there. In 1910 was a "roping hand" in a cotton mill in Spartanburg County.

He married Susan G. Brown (1844-1932) in 1872 and they had 9 children.
