Before Sharpsburg
A 35 year old wheelwright, he enlisted as a substitute for R.A. Shine at Camp Leon near Tallahassee, FL on 28 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 5th Florida Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 9 October, furloughed home on 28 October, and was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He never returned to his company and was discharged at Tallahassee for disability on 16 July 1863 (re-issued 15 October 1863).
