Before Sharpsburg
A cooper's son, in 1860 he was a 19 year old planter at Madison Court House in Madison County, Fl. He enlisted at Camp Leon near Tallahassee, FL on 30 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 5th Florida Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to about 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA by 24 October, formally exchanged on 10 November, and furloughed home on 21 November 1862. He was wounded in the hand in action at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. He was captured (or deserted to the enemy) on about 15 March 1865, place not found, took an oath of allegiance to the United States, and was sent to Key West, FL.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1900 he was a farmer in Madison County, FL.
