Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Tallahassee, FL on 26 February 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 5th Florida Infantry. He was promoted to 4th Corporal about June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD on 9 September, left behind, and captured there on the 12th.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged to return to duty on 10 November 1862.
He was appointed 4th Sergeant by December 1862, promoted to 3rd Sergeant in about April 1863, and to First Sergeant on 20 April 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
