Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 23 year old farmer at Thomasville in Thomas County, GA. He enlisted at Camp Leon near Tallhassee on 9 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 5th Florida Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD on 9 September, left behind, and captured there on the 12th.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to the hospital at Camp Winder in Richmond, VA on 15 (or 22) October and died there of typhoid fever on 31 October 1862.
His widow Susan filed a claim for his final pay of $22.00 in August 1863 and it was paid out through an attorney in Thomasville, GA in October 1863.
