Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer at Tallahassee in Leon County, FL. He enlisted there on 20 February 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 5th Florida Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD on 9 September, left behind, and captured there on the 12th.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 15 October, furloughed home for 30 days on 20 October, and formally exchanged on 10 November 1862 to return to duty.
He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his left shoulder and chest in action in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and was taken to CSA General Hospital #9 in Richmond, VA "in a dying condition." He died there of his wounds on 1 June 1864.
