Benjamin Franklin Walker

A 26 year old farmer's son from Leon County, FL, he enlisted in Tallahassee, FL on 20 February 1862 and mustered as 3rd Corporal of Company K, 5th Florida Infantry.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, left behind, and captured there on 12 September 1862.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 22 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort McHenry in Baltimore to 13 October, then sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 19 October, furloughed home for 30 days on 23 October, and formally exchanged on 10 November 1862 to return to duty.

He was promoted to First Corporal in about April 1863 and was wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and captured there. He was received at the prison in Fort Delaware on 7 July and held there until 10 June 1865, when when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.

By 1880 he was a farmer at Iamonia in Leon County, FL.

He married Sarah Caroline Copeland (1847-) in March 1867 and they had a son, Henry. He married again, Susan F Murray (1849-) in February 1870 and they had 3 children.
