He enlisted in New Orleans on 10 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A, 5th Louisiana Infantry at Camp Moore near Tangipahoa, LA on 1 September.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, sick, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 18 September then at Fort McHenry in Baltimore and was a prisoner there to 11 October 1862, when he was paroled and sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA to at least 10 November 1862, furloughed home, and back in the hospital in January 1863. He returned to duty in about February 1863. He was killed in action at Monocacy, MD on 9 July 1863.
