Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at Ridgeville, SC on 2 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Captain Means' Buckhead Guards - Company D, later C, of the 6th North Carolina Infantry. He reenlisted on 8 April 1862 at Louisa Court House, VA at the reorganization of the regiment.
On the Campaign
He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.
The rest of the War
He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 8 October, formally exchanged on 10 November, and returned to duty from the hospital on 16 December 1862.
He as captured in action on the Darbytown Road near Richmond on 7 October 1864. He was held at Bermuda Hundred, VA where he requested to take an oath of allegiance to the United States. He was scheduled to be sent on to Orange County, FL on 21 October or to Baltimore, MD on 24 October, then listed as a "rebel deserter." No later military record found.
