David M. Drewry

In 1860 he was a 21 year old student living with the Malachi M. Moore family and their 9 slaves on their farm at London Bridge in Princess Anne County, VA. He enlisted at Norfolk, VA on 22 May 1861 and mustered on 30 June as a Private in Company F of the 6th Virginia Infantry. He was promoted to 3rd Corporal on 1 May 1862.

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD by 12 September, left behind, and captured there.

He was in US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD to 19 September and afterward was a prisoner at Fort McHenry in Baltimore to 13 October, then sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was in a Richmond, VA hospital, was formally exchanged on 10 November, and was back with his company by 1 January 1863. He had been promoted to 3rd Sergeant while a prisoner in October to date from 2 September 1862.

He was afterward with his company until he was killed in action in "the Crater" at Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1864.
